Great 17th century Italian painting, Holy Family with the Infant Saint John
-
Description
Splendid Italian painting from the second half of the 17th century. Oil on canvas artwork depicting a Holy Family with Infant Saint John, of remarkable pictorial quality. In the composition we find all the typical elements of this type of representation: the Madonna in the center holding baby Jesus on her lap while a graceful Infant Saint John embraces him. On the left we find its iconographic elements, the cross with the "Ecce Agnus Dei" scroll and a wonderful little lamb. In the background on the right we glimpse St. Joseph, often depicted on the sidelines but always present and participating. Worthy of note is the executive quality of the drapery and the skillful use of light, which models the volumes creating depth. 19th century frame in carved and gilded wood, with some loss of gilding (see photo). Painting already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and repainting of the color in small spots. It shows some signs of aging, overall in good condition. Interior size H 113 x W 88 cm.
