-
Description
Splendid 18th century French painting. Oil on canvas artwork depicting a scene of great charm, the painter's studio. Painting signed on the lower right by the famous Charles-André Van Loo (1705-1765). Born into a family of painters of Dutch origin, he also worked in Turin for the Savoy and in Rome where he studied at the school of Benedetto Luti. In Paris he was then appointed official painter of the court of Louis XV. (The painting is not currently accompanied by an expertise, but it is possible to request one upon payment of the relevant additional costs). The composition represents a refined interior scene set in an atelier. The artist portrays himself while he is painting a portrait and various characters are arranged around him. In a light and elegant atmosphere, the richness of the costumes and the preciousness of the fabrics stand out, clearly recalling the French Rococo taste of the period. 20th century frame in carved, lacquered and gilded wood, with some signs of aging. Painting already restored with relining, replacement of the frame and repainting of the color in small spots. Overall in good condition. Interior size H 120.5 x W 151.5 cm.
