  • Description
    Henri Montassier was born at Courlon near the River Yonne on July 27th 1880.
    As a young man he studied under Luc -Oliver Merson and began his career painting primarily landscapes,
    making one extensive sketching tour of North Africa. Gradually he also turned to painting occasional figure subjects.
    He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Francais from 1907, soon becoming a member of the Societaire and later exhibiting hors-concours. He received a silver medal at the Salon in 1920 and a gold medal there 3 years later. The museum of Dijon has one of his paintings in their collection.

    The present work is an oil on wood panel that measures 18 x 15 inches.
    Framed size is 24.25 x 21.5 inches
