Pair of Venetian Grand Canal Capriccio Paintings by James Salt

Description
A vibrant pair of opposing viewpoints from James Salt executed in oil on canvas, the works are painted with his typical translucent and nearly pastel qualities. His blues throughout the length of the canal grade gently into the sky with an atmospheric handling of the hazy grays. Each building is vivid and full of color as small fishing vessels line the canal. In the distance a large tower and dome allow the viewer to identify the opposing perspectives of the two works, a perspective that was painted several different times by Salt, a few of these having sold through Christies. These are capriccios with somewhat imagined building architecture and placement, capturing the essence of Venice without being in situ or even necessarily accurate. They are very finely painted and remain in exceptional presentation-ready condition throughout, having just been professionally conserved on their original linings.

Professionally conserved on their original linings; under UV showing touch ups, a repaired hole, restoration to the signature of one painting and fresh varnish all completed by our conservator. Frames are likely original to the paintings, each with light chips/wear/gilding discolorations as expected. The pair are presentation-ready and in exquisite overall condition. -
