The brushstrokes seem to wrestle on the canvas, suggesting a battle of elements. The title, "Conflictus," speaks to this tension—Latin for conflict, it alludes to a deeper existential struggle portrayed through the interplay of color and form.
The bold use of color recalls the intensity of Turner’s later works, where light itself becomes a subject.
