You Have to Sacrifice Something Else VI - 60” x 72”
Oil and Charcoal Dust and vellum paper and Mixed Media on Archival Canvas
There’s a Zen Koan* where the teacher holds a stick. The teacher says to the
student, “If you tell me this stick is real, “I will hit you with it. “If you tell me it
is not real, I will hit you with it. If you say nothing, I will hit you with it.” And
so, the student reaches out, grabs the stick, and breaks it.
“When you reach the end of what you should know, you will be at the
beginning of what you should sense.” – Kahlil Gibrán
“When you gain something, you have to sacrifice something else”. -
