A notable image from Curtis’ extensive series, this photogravure captures Ambrosio Martínez, a member of the San Juan Pueblo (now known as Ohkay Owingeh) in New Mexico.
Over three decades, Curtis produced a staggering 40,000 photographs, using his artistic vision to compile what has since become the most thorough and significant historical record of Native American culture.
