Description
This stunning and graphic French Art Deco theatrical lithograph was designed by the esteemed designer Maurice Dufrène (b. 1876 - d. 1955) for the comic operetta "Rayon Des Soieries" circa 1930. The piece depicts a black and white stylized female form dressed in an evening gown. Her arm is outstretched holding the tail of her dress in her right arm. The fabric of the gown apparently drapes from her other hand cascading to the floor in ray-like grisaille bands with a subtle pastel yellow accent.
While Dufrène is perhaps best known for his Art Deco furniture and textile designs, he was also an accomplished draftsman and visual artist. He participated in the 1925 Paris Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs et Industriels Modernes which gave the "Art Deco" style its name. His signature is inscribed in the lower right corner of the piece.
The bold graphic sensibility and quintessentially Art Deco font makes this piece a highly desirable collectible for discerning enthusiasts of graphic design, typography and artwork of the period. The lithograph comes presented in a vintage brushed nickel frame. It is in excellent vintage condition.
