Description
A striking Neoclassical engraving by the renowned Italian architect and printmaker Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1778), depicting a goddess with the dramatic scale and atmospheric depth that defined his legendary career. Piranesi’s mastery of the etching needle is evident in the intricate linework and powerful use of light, transforming a classical figure into a monumental vision of antiquity.
Circa 1770, this original period work was produced during the height of Piranesi’s influence, capturing the romantic spirit of the 18th century discovery of the ancient world.
Engraved on aged paper and presented in a refined mount, the work retains the crisp detail and rich tonality of an authentic 18th century pull. Rooted in the Neoclassical tradition, this engraving reflects the era’s deep intellectual and artistic obsession with the ruins of Rome and the enduring power of classical mythology. -
