Original Tomas Sanchez Orilla Lithograph, Signed, Dated Artist Proof
Offered for sale is an original tropical landscape by lithograph by the famed Cuban artist Tomás Sánchez. The lithograph is marked as an artist proof AP in the lower right corner and signed and dated 1994 in the lower right. The print is displayed in the original wood frame under glass.
Tomás Sánchez (born 1948) is a Cuban artist celebrated for his landscape paintings, often described as surreal and dreamlike. He is known for his detailed depictions of lush tropical vegetation and for exploring themes of spirituality, solitude, and the relationship between humanity and nature. Sanchez was born on May 22, 1948, in Aguada de Pasajeros, Cuba. He studied
Studied at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes San Alejandro in Havana and later in Moscow.
His paintings are characterized by meticulous detail and he is often compared to Caspar David Friedrich and the Hudson River School for his romantic and meditative approach to landscapes.
The artist has had solo exhibits worldwide and has won numerous awards. He won the First Prize for painting at the XIX Joan Miró International Drawing Prize in 1980 for his painting "Desde las aguas blancas", marking the beginning of his international recognition. He exhibited at the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona following the prize.
His work is held in prestigious collections, including the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana.
Considered one of Cuba's most prominent contemporary artists. The artist now resides in Miami. -
