Created in 1966, this cast polyester resin sculpture dates to the earliest years of Peter Alexander's pioneering experimentation with industrial resin, a material that would become synonymous with his practice. Recognizing its extraordinary optical properties, Alexander exploited polyester resin's ability to capture, refract, and diffuse light, creating sculptures that seem to hover between object and atmosphere. The sculpture's inclined geometric plane appears both solid and immaterial, with softly translucent surfaces that subtly shift in response to changing light and the viewer's position. Produced at the beginning of Alexander's career, the work marks the emergence of the perceptual language that would establish him as one of the leading figures of the California Light and Space movement.
