Description
This maquette was created in bronze as a scale model for the monumental 63-ton, 30’ x 30’ x 30’ welded-steel sculpture titled the "Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial" completed in 1973, and located at the entrance to the Martin Luther King Jr. Educational Campus on West 66th Street in New York City. The abstract, cube-like sculpture resembles a printer's block and features quotes and initials from King's life. The original plan was for a fountain, but it was redesigned as a memorial after King's assassination. This is an incredible piece of history, being a maquette to arguably New York City’s most renowned public work.
