Description
Louis René Boquet de Liancourt studied at a drawing school in Paris, after which he entered the atelier of François Boucher. Boquet was a member of L’Academie Royale de Peinture, and was well known for his paintings of costumes for Philemon and Boucis. His painting for the Theatre de l’Opera in Paris in 1775 is at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. In 1775, he was encharged with the interior decoration of the cathedral of Rheims for the consacration of Louis XVI on June 11 of the same year. He later entered the service of the king with the “Menus Plaisirs” where he became inspector general.
