Description
Marc Chagall (1887-1985). Etude pour Jacob (chapelle de Vence). Committee Chagall has confirmed the authenticity of the drawing. Signed Chagall (lower right). Pen and India ink on tracing paper with blue ball-point pen squaring. Executed circa 1955. Provenance: Atelier de l'artiste puis par descendance au proprietaire actuel. A certificate from the Comite Chagall will accompany this drawing. The art work is a preparatory study for larger piece, capturing the essence of a dreamlike vision with ethereal figure and celestial ladder. The drawing is infused with sense of mystical spirituality. Prominent throughout are representation of heavenly angel ascending or descending a ladder. The drawing includes dreamlike element and free flowing style , creating a vision almost floating in a cosmic expanse. Notably Chagall's signature can be found at the bottom right corner, affirming the artist's personal touch on his evocative drawing.
