Description
Etching and aquatint from 1970.
Edition: 39/75
On Arches wove paper
A beautiful plate, a small edition of 75, a demanding technique: etching and aquatint, and an artist emblematic of early 20th-century abstraction: Sonia Delaunay (1885-1979). All these qualities are brought together in a work of great delicacy of composition and execution.
The composition of this etching takes up the main principles of Sonia Delaunay's art, which she had been exploring for over forty years, in the 1970s, when our work was created. The circles of color influence movement and chromatic power.
The choice of technique allows the artist to create watercolor effects that give a very light texture to the ink through delicate washes. A vertical axis distributes colors and shapes, creating symmetry and asymmetry at the same time, generating a dynamic balance. Sonia Delaunay uses the etching technique to engrave a grid of criss-crossing strokes on a metal plate, creating a tightly-woven guilloche pattern on the final plate that lends rhythm to the entire composition.
Certificate of authenticity.
The work is in excellent condition.
Hand-signed by the artist. -
