Description
Original watercolor on archival paper of a female nude seated on a sofa as seen from the back. Signed and dated 1985 lower right by the artist. Condition is very good. Under glass. The artwork is done in a post impressionist style with broad brushwork. The artwork is housed in a gold decorative custom gallery frame with off white matting. Overall framed measurements are 33 by 26 inches. Provenance: A New York City estate.
Theo Hios (Greek-American, 1908-1999).
Theo Hios was born in 1908 in Tripi, a little town in Greece just outside of Sparta, and came to the United States when he was twenty-one. He studied in New York and worked on children's book illustrations and prints under the Works Progress Administration in the 1930s. After WWII, he pursued abstraction and experimental art techniques. Hios' works can be found at the Brooklyn Museum, the Smithsonian, and other important institutions. -
