Mid 20th Century Early Charles Eames Folding Screen

$ 5,500
  • Description
    Eames 6 panel Birch plywood screen. Designed by Charles Eames and manufactured by Herman Miller. This is an early example of this design classic, based on the fabric hinges and patina. The screen is constructed from six U-shaped, molded plywood panels connected by fabric hinges. Developed in 1946 using techniques from Eames wartime plywood experiments, the panels are created by alternating layers of veneer and adhesive, then pressing them into a curved, undulating wave shape. Production of these screens was discontinued in 1955 due to the time consuming labour intensive method of attaching the canvas. Unmarked

    Good original condition. Veneer chips and wear on some of the edges, light scratches, variation in wood tone, some small areas of water marks, light fraying in fabric.
