    This 20th-century five-panel crackle lacquer screen features a finely decorated phoenix beneath a flowering tree with bamboo and blooming peonies. The black crackle lacquer ground is accented with gilt and polychrome details, while the lower panels depict traditional scholar's objects. Elegant and decorative, it serves as both a striking room divider and a timeless display piece. Prior paint restorations to the backside.
