18th Century German Bavarian Blue Painted Antique “Kas” Armoire Cabinet

Description
A gorgeous wedding schrank in early dusty robin's egg blue with coral painted highlights surrounding blue molded panels of cream with chaotic floral decorations in the doors, it has been conveniently built as a "knock-down" armoire. The crafty use of wedged tenons in battens of the base and of the top allow the left and right side to lock together firmly, while also very quickly separating for transport.
Notable is the rich ironwork in the hinges and locks. Both wrought iron strap hinges are affixed with rosehead nails and have a faint etching to the surfaces. Similar geometrical designs are worked into the brighter steel elements of the lock, a thing of beauty with huge clasps and a large original iron key to work it.
The case is raised over later turned bun feet.

Condition Report:
Some refreshing to paint, extensive surface wear throughout. Spliced addition near the lock clasp of the door. Original lock, key, catches, iron strap hinges. Feet replaced. Joining wedge and tenons on the upper and lower battens (the wedges that lock together the structure when put together) early but perhaps replaced, originality of battens unknown. Late wallpaper on the interior in poor condition. -
