19th Century Zanzibar Chest
-
Description
This a wonderfully large 19th century Zanzibar Teak storage trunk that is detailed in cut-out and repousse brass. The bottom section is composed of a series of small drawers. The sides have very heavy brass handles. This is a veery substantial piece of furniture--it's dimensions allow it to be used as table or server. The chest is in overall good condition, but exhibits deep natural patina acquired over many years of use. The hand forged nails, 30" single board top, natural patina are good indications of the age of this chest. There are some losses to the brass decorative strap work which do not detract from the beauty of chest, but do add to its character. We have spiffed up the chest by applying several coats of hard paste wax and securing the brass elements --the chest is ready for its new home--traditional, modern or renaissance inspired.
