Description
Antique French Empire style chest of drawers
French, 19th Century
Height 86cm, width 127cm, depth 57cm
This beautiful chest of drawers was crafted in France in the 19th Century. It employs classical ornament sparingly and utilises the colour and grain of the wood to create beautiful surface effects.
The chest stands on four feet, the front two turned and the back two straight. Its body is rectangular in shape, to accommodate three long drawers at its centre. These are fitted with gilt bronze keyholes — which can be locked using a key that comes with the piece — and gilt bronze knobs. The drawers are flanked by a pair of Doric columns, which have gilt bronze bases, smooth shafts, and simple gilt bronze capitals. These columns support a wooden panel, which projects out from the chest body. This panel is mounted on its corners with gilt bronze palmettes.
This piece is a refined and elegant piece of furniture, which will suit either an antique or contemporary interior. - More Information
