Biedermeier Style Walnut and Parcel Ebonized Display Cabinet

Description
A rather unusual vitrine designed in the Biedermeier taste, it was likely crafted during the last quarter of the 19th century but perhaps as late as the turn of the century. The match-booked walnut veneers are striking along the length of the sides where the curvature of the wood is beautifully exaggerated; this is also employed in the dramatic rays above the arched glass in the door. A simple bevelled crown projects softly over the case where a full length door opens to reveal a shelved interior. The door is crafted with tenon-mortise joinery in the pine secondary woods, this veneered in pine with ebonized astragals overlaid on the glass beneath ebonized crepuscular rays. The cabinet rests over replaced tapered feet. It remains in gorgeous presentation-ready condition throughout with only minor wear to the hand-rubbed shellac finish.

Condition Report:
Feet replaced 20th century, repairs to veneers above feet; a few ebonized astragals on glass door have some bowing to them from shrinkage. Dings and abrasions to the surface here and there. -
