Extraordinary George III Lacquered Secretary
-
Description
A George III secretary of exceptional quality dating from the late 18th century with later Chinoiserie lacquer and gilt decoration. There are so many wonderful, beautifully crafted details in this piece that it takes some time to really study it. Two arched doors on the top portion (painted on the inside and outside) open to reveal a beautiful array of fitted drawers, pigeon holes and a small mirrored door covering a small storage space. The bottom portion includes two small drawers and two larger drawers, and the slant top opens to reveal a tooled leather writing surface. The case is lined in oak and all drawers are lined in silk. This is a true work of art that has been well taken care of and noteworthy for its superior quality, excellent condition and the lovely, warm patina it has developed over the years.
