Francois Linke, a Large and Fine Gilt-Bronze Mounted Kingwood Grand Vitrine

Sold Sold
  • Description
Francois Linke, A large and fine French gilt bronze mounted Kingwood double door grand Vitrine Cabinet, circa 1880. Arched crest, mirrored backing, framed overall with finely-cast foliate scrolls and bearded bronze masks, raised on heavy quality gilt bronze scrolled sabots, one mount inscribed F. Linke. Bombé to the front and convex to the sides, the vitrine fitted with double doors opening to a mirrored interior and fitted with five glass shelves. Measures: 85" high x 52" wide x 16" deep. A similar vitrine cabinet is kept in the permanent collections of the Garde-Meubles of the Mobilier National de France and is currently on display at the Musée d'Orsay. A pair of similar vitrines were sold at Sotheby's in New York on October 29, 2014, lot 167 ($ 497,000) and at Sothebys Paris, 4 November, 2015 lot 570 ( 123,000 Euro) The similarity of the styles of François Linke and Zwiener appears clearly on the general line of their furniture combining the Louis XV style with the boldness of Art Nouveau. The bronze mounts are each of the greatest exuberance and the highest sculptural quality. The exceptional quality of Zwiener’s craftsmanship and extensive usage of Fine gilt bronze invites comparisons to the work of famed ébéniste, Francois Linke (1855-1946). Provenance: Property from the Collection of M. Anthony Greene, Atlanta, Georgia Minor chips and bruises to veneer overall. Later lighting wired through the top. Ready to place.
