-
Description
An exceptional Louis XVI period commode! This antique case piece was made in France, circa 1840. The gray marble top is original to the commode and shaped to fit the body’s turreted corners. This top is in wonderful antique condition. The three drawers have moulded panel fronts, finished in a smart burl walnut and trimmed in mahogany. They are all equipped with two drop bail handles, made of brass. The keyholes are surrounded by cast brass escutcheons done in a ribbon/garland motif. The turreted pilaster column corners are fluted and terminate with turned, tapered and fluted feet. All four feet are turned and all wear brass sabots.
