Description
French gilt bronze and marquetry writing secretaire
French, late 19th Century
Height 132.5cm, width 91cm, depth 66cm
This elegant secretaire, or writing desk, is a fine piece of nineteenth-century French craftsmanship in the older style of Louis XV. The secretaire is of traditional form, raised on four cabriole legs connected with two shelves. The legs support the body of the secretaire, the front of which opens to reveal various compartments and shelves. The surfaces throughout are delicately adorned with floral marquetry in variously coloured woods. The front two feet are finished with gilt bronze foliate sabots, while the keyhole to the front of the body features a gilt bronze frame. - More Information
