Description
French Neoclassical style gilt bronze mounted ebonised wood display cabinet
French, late 19th Century
Height 164cm, width 122cm, depth 40cm
This fine display cabinet is a superb example of the French Neoclassical style. The cabinet features twin glazed doors, their wooden surfaces—like the wooden surfaces throughout the body of the cabinet—composed from mahogany and ebonised wood veneers bounded by bands of inlaid brass. The doors open to reveal a cabinet of two glass shelves and a mirrored backboard. The cabinet is raised on four toupie feet and is surmounted by a marble top. The piece is set with exquisite gilt bronze mounts, each mount a wonderful example of Neoclassicism: classical masks and rosettes predominate. -
