GEORGE I WALNUT & WALNUT VENEERED BACHELOR'S CHEST, England, c1715-20
The rectangular hinged fold-over top with book-matched veneers surrounded by a row of featherbanding within crossbanding, baize-lined, and opening forward over square lopers, above two short over three long feather-banded and cock-beaded drawers each having apparently original brass drop handles on petal mounts with cotter pin attachments, the sides with further vertical crossbanding; the whole supported on original bracket feet; with working key.
Note Regarding Dating and Construction:
Cockbeading was introduced into British cabinetmaking about 1715-20. Also, square lopers usually indicate a date prior to 1720. -

Excellent, with wear, nicks and scratches appropriate to age and usage; the lock escutcheons replaced; small veneer repair to the top right hand drawer; the baize also appropriately replaced.
