Description
A Rare 18th Century Louis XV period bombe shaped chestnut provincial commode.
French Circa 1750
Of an unusual curvaceous waisted form having a shaped front (often referred to as arc-en-arbalète, meaning in English shape of the crossbow) of three solid chestnut graduated drawers each with carved moulded recessed panels, central brass escutcheons and 18th century handles which are period replacements using the same holes. The sides being panelled are united by a shaped apron raised on carved hoof feet.
Of wonderful colour and patination this extremely elegant and rare formed commode will work in most decorative and traditional settings. -
