Description
A Rare Louis XV Ormolu-Mounted Tulipwood and Chinese Lacquer cabinet, c. 1750 (Regence Period)
A truly magnificent, monumental, and one of a kind cabinet, painted throughout with gilt and polychrome Chinese lacquer from the 18th century, and mounted with elegant French bronze mounts. Comes with three original gilt-bronze keys, and original shelves.
71" high x 85" wide 18" deep

Acquired from Kugel, Paris, October 2008.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art has recently used this cabinet as a reference to Karl Lagerfeld's inspiration for an evening coat:
House of Chanel Karl Lagerfeld House of Lesage, evening coat - Fall/Winter 1996-1997, Haute Coutoure on Display. (See photo).
Very good condition overall. Ready to place. With typical scattered light nicks, faint marks and scratches. The lacquer panels with craquelure. The mounts with typical rubbing. -
