Description
An intriguing cabinet or cupboard, crafted of cast concrete in a special technique with plant specimens cast into its doors. Here the Welsh-riesling vine plant, that makes the famous Austrian wine. The softness and sensibility of nature represented through these beautiful plants contrast with the hardness of the concrete, which creates a surprising sensation. The plants appear as being petrified. We are also reminded of the art deco era or Jugenstil, which is projected into the present and the future through the use of this ultra-contemporary material of concrete.
The beauty of nature becomes even more manifest, the finesse of the plants more obvious, being cast into a timeless state for eternity.
Stefan Buxbaum, born in 1971, studied sculpture at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, and since 2003 has been working in the fields of sculpture, design, and furniture. He lives in the east of Austria. His preferred material is concrete which qualities and limits he challenges. His body of work is characterized by a dialogue between seemingly disparate elements: the chasteness and timeless hardness of concrete meet the fragile vivacity and tenderness of plant specimens. There is a technical sophistication inherent in his work, which has its own melody which adds a new lightness and aesthetic to the gravity of the material.
We can work on bespoke pieces in many sizes.
