‘BlooMing’ is the tale of a Chinese “blue and white” icon that crossed centuries and frontiers. Born during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644), the Ming vase finds new garments and functionalities under Studio MVW’s creative impulse. With its new deep blue lacquered dress, this ancestral traditional form opens up, literally blooming and transforming itself into a cabinet with light, revealing immaculate white secret receptacles. The elegance of the straight lines anodized in polished and brushed brass finishes meets the softness of curves; the precious, daring aesthetics fit contemporary customs. With ‘BlooMing’, acclaimed design duo Studio MVW asserts once again their talent in questioning the memory of forms and materials and overcoming them in a truly contemporary cross-cultural approach of East and West.
Founded in Shanghai by Chinese designer Xu Ming and French architect Virginie Moriette, Studio MVW is known for their sculptural, architectural forms and ability to subtly connect contemporary Western and Eastern aesthetics. With over twenty years of experience in architecture, interior and furniture design, Studio MVW has won numerous awards in Asia and Europe, including the Architectural Digest AD China 100 Design Talents Award (2017, 2015 and 2013); Wallpaper* Design Award (2018, 2014); ELLE Decoration International Design Award (2013).
