Swedish 19th Century Painted Corner Cabinet
-
Description
This handsome corner cabinet from 19th century Sweden is constructed with a characteristic neoclassical shape. The worn light blue paint is original to the piece and gives it a wonderful patina. A nicely carved cornice tops the whole, with capital-like details and canted corners. Fluting details flank the sides and center of the cabinets on the top and bottom portions. Both sets of cabinets lock and have an interior latch to secure the doors. The top features the same worn blue paint on the interior and shelves. The topmost shelf is uniquely shaped and carved, possibly for the purpose of storing tall candles. A shapely opening graces the midsection and adds a nice amount of detail. The bottom houses a single shelf, providing even more storage. Make sure to view the detailed images to get a closer look at this special piece. When measuring your corner, each side of the cabinet is 37”D.
