THE CURTIS AND BEACH FAMILY QUEEN ANNE HIGHBOY
Housatonic River Valley, Probably Stratford, Connecticut Circa 1775
Primary Wood: Cherry
Secondary Wood: Pine
Height: 73 ¾ inches
Width: 41 inches
Depth: 21 ½ inches
Provenance: Descended in the Curtis family to Dorothy Curtis (1787-1873), Stratford Connecticut and her husband Ephriam W. Beach, Trumbull, Connecticut; to Morris Beach Beardsley (label on backboard).
Reference: An article by Edward Cooke entitled Craftsmen-client Relations in the Housatonic Valley, 1720-1800 that appears in The Magazine Antiques, January, 1984, illustrates other highboys with a very similar leg design also from Stratford.
