Description
A Small Lancaster County, Pennsylvania Walnut Schrank attributed to Johannes Bachman of Strasburg , Circa 1800.
A surviving Bachman account book lists only one “small wardrobe” and records it as being made for Widow Kinbortz on Mar 3 1803 7L 10S -0-” out of 21 total entries for wardrobes.
The Kinports (Kinbortz) name shows up in the Strasburg area.
Widow Kinports is most likely Barbara Schultz, the second wife of Nicholas Kinports. Married in 1793, they most likely were Mennonite. Nicholas died in the year 1800 in Lampeter Township, near Strasburg.
A pencil inscription on the back records: “Bought by L. D. Willis from L. P. Arrdrup 1929” -
