Description
New Curtis Norton Abstract Stainless, Granite Table Lamp, Signed, Aluminum Shade
Offered for sale is a 21st-century table lamp by the self-taught artist Chris Norton. The lamp is made from forged, welded, and meticulously polished stainless steel that is triangular-shaped in cross-section. The stainless steel has been hand-shaped into sinuous twists and curves as it tapered upward to support a shade made from aluminum and is painted with red automotive paint with a clear coat finish. The finial is also made from welded stainless steel. The lamp is presented upon round stacked granite disk bases. The welded stainless steel is polished to a high degree of reflectivity. The lamp looks different from every viewing angle. This lamp was created to be a functional piece of sculpture.
Norton embraced the postmodern ethos of challenging conventions and celebrating handcrafted artistry. His lamps exemplify the movement’s commitment to elevating craft to the level of fine art, blurring the boundaries between sculpture and functional furniture.
The lamp is signed but hidden under the base as shown when separated from the granite.
Shade measures 17 3/4" Diameter, 8" Height. The base has a diameter of 6.5" -
