PAIR OF FRENCH EMPIRE GILT BRONZE AND MARBLE CANDLESTICKS CONVERTED TO LAMPS
ATTRIBUTED TO CLAUDE GALLE (1759-1815)
With a finely incised ormolu bobeche decorated with various geometric patterns sitting on a plain drip-pan which is mounted above three caryatid classical heads adorned with garlands of flowers and each wearing a beaded necklace, above a downward tapering red marble column terminating in three pairs of cast human feet on a circular base incised with arrows, feathers and stars.
France c. 1805. Converted to lamps with faux candles and electrified for the UK. Shown with 16" gathered silk shades available separately. Variations on this model were supplied by Claude Galle to the Château de Fontainebleau in 1804.
