Description
This exquisite and exceedingly rare Art Deco Bronze & Brass Floor Lamp W/Frosted Glass Shades signed Edgar Brandt originates from France, Circa 1930. This floor lamp is highly ornate, featuring in the center between the shades a stylized Gazelle nested within an array of iron floral and geometric motifs. Brandt was highly attuned to the developing aesthetic trends of his time, incorporating the figural and natural references of Art Nouveau while bringing in more geometric motifs and thoughtful proportions of the developing Art Deco movement. This stunning piece is formed in bronze and brass with frosted glass shades, a brilliant balance of materials each with their unique aesthetic and sculptural properties, with geometric patterns and references unified throughout these varied substrates. The base has an elegant rounded form with four legs extending into scroll form feet with hatched detailing. The four legs are joined by an array of sculptural open form floral details and curving ribbon like bands. A grooved rectangular piece of brass delineates the base from the rising central support, with rhythmic hatched detailing and elegant proportions leading to the acanthus style expanding bronze leaves which suspend the glass shades on either side of the lamp. Signed by Edgar Brandt on top of the back right supporting foot. A true gem of the Art Deco movement and a gleaming example of Brandt's genius in both design and material execution, this Floor Lamp will draw the appreciation of those with a love for the best of the Art Deco movement. Will style beautifully in a wide array of spaces and settings, from Art Deco to Mid-Century Modernist and Contemporary Interiors. Newly rewired to American Standards, this piece accommodates two Candelabra base bulbs achieving up to 120 watts of light. In Excellent Vintage Condition.
