Description
Delightful ceramic table lamp by Gustave Raynaud for Le Murier, Vallauris, France, c. 1960.
This charming table lamp is hand-painted in the French ceramicist's signature style replete with abstract vegetation and a "le coq" rooster executed in soft blues against a chalky white base. Light has been rewired and outfitted with a black twisted silk cord.
Gustave Reynaud (1915-1972) founded the pottery Le Mûrier (Mulberry Tree) in Vallauris in 1955 and produced crockery designed by his brother-in-law Jean Derval as well as vases, wall plaques and anthropomorphic jugs. He also worked with the potter, J-F Descombes, and decorator Michel Barbier in their well known village in the French Riviera. After Reynaud's death in 1972 his wife ran the pottery until 1984. -
