2 Scandinavian Modern Brass & Smoked Glass Chandeliers by Hans Agne Jakobsson

$ 12,997
  • Description
    Rare, Elegant and Timeless Scandinavian Mid-Century Modern Brass and Smoked Glass Chandeliers by Hans Agne Jakobsson circa 1958 - 1965. 2 Chandeliers are Available; Priced and Sold Individually.

    A finely balanced Swedish mid-century modern chandelier model # T 10 composed of a central brass stem supporting a radial arrangement of arms, each terminating in cylindrical smoked glass shades with brass collars. The fixture exhibits a disciplined architectural clarity characteristic of Scandinavian modernism of the late 1950s and early 1960s, combining restrained elegance with a visibly rational, modular construction.

    The chandelier is executed in solid brass with a warm natural patina, paired with lightly tinted cylindrical glass shades that soften and diffuse the light while preserving a strong graphic silhouette. The 10 arms radiate from a machined central hub secured with visible fasteners, emphasizing functional honesty and mechanical legibility—hallmarks of Nordic design philosophy during the period.

    The plain cylindrical brass ceiling canopy and serviceable, modular arm construction are consistent with Scandinavian production intended for both residential and architectural interiors. The overall aesthetic—minimalist, structural, and materially expressive—aligns closely with lighting designs associated with Hans-Agne Jakobsson and his contemporaries, whose work bridged refined craftsmanship and industrial clarity.

    Particularly notable is the chandelier’s rare combination of sculptural presence and utilitarian rigor: unlike more decorative Italian counterparts of the era, this example privileges proportion, repetition, and material integrity over ornament. The use of smoked cylindrical glass, rather than layered or shaped diffusers, underscores its modernist restraint and contributes to its increasingly scarce survival today.

    Chandeliers of this type are uncommon, as Scandinavian designers more frequently produced pendants and table lamps; multi-arm ceiling fixtures were typically made in smaller numbers and often lost or altered over time. The present example survives with its original design language intact, making it a compelling and increasingly rare document of Nordic mid-century lighting design.

    Height of the chandelier is adjustable by adjusting the brass stem. Most clients will want this height between 24" and 42" however the existing long stem will allow the piece to be 96".
