These three ceiling lamps form a captivating presence in space, balancing precision and softness with poetic restraint. Each piece descends from a slim rectangular ceiling plate in a long cascade of fine threads, creating a fluid surface that both conceals and reveals light. The glow that filters through this shimmering veil transforms the atmosphere—diffused, tactile, and gently radiant.

When seen together, the lamps appear as luminous partitions, defining space without enclosing it. They play with the tension between visibility and transparency, solid and immaterial, structure and movement. Viewed individually, each lamp becomes a suspended sculpture—a quiet yet expressive column of light that can complement both intimate and architectural environments. The rhythm of the hanging threads gives them a serene, almost meditative quality, while the precision of the upper frame grounds their ethereal form.

Designed in 1973 by Mariyo Yagi for Sirrah, the model Garbo R combines minimalist geometry with a sensuous material language. The name, chosen by Dino Gavina in homage to Greta Garbo, reflects the same qualities of mystery, grace, and quiet intensity that the lamps embody.

Born in 1948 in Kobe, Mariyo Yagi is a Japanese artist and designer whose work bridges sculpture, light, and spatial installation. After studying interior and garden architecture in Kyoto, she worked in the mid-1970s as an assistant to Isamu Noguchi, whose influence can be felt in her sensitivity to organic form and the relationship between object and space. Yagi’s practice is grounded in her concept of Nawa—the rope—as a symbol of energy, connection, and continuity. In Garbo R, this philosophy is translated into light: the threads become a living medium that unites material and air, light and shadow.

Elegant and versatile, these lamps are suited for both private and public interiors. They can function as subtle space dividers, as luminous sculptures, or as architectural lighting features that redefine the surrounding atmosphere. Their quiet radiance softens the edges of a room, inviting calm and reflection—an encounter between light, space, and movement.
