Description
Orrefors, is a renowned Swedish glassware company known for its high-quality crystal and glass products. The company was founded in 1898 in the small town of Orrefors, Sweden, and has a long history of glassmaking and craftsmanship.
This model is a classic Swedish piece with a cosy, refined look and some truly unique design features. Above all else, the double frosted glass shades stand out with an outer shade housing an inner layer of ribbed glass. The outer layer’s diamond pattern is semi see-through, allowing a glimpse into the masterfully worked inner diffuser. The three light bulbs housed inside the glass diffuser create a beautiful effect when lit, glowing from the inside to establish the homey warm light. To counterbalance the shades, the brass stem and rod have a more understated, streamlined look that allows the design focus to remain on the glass. The shade is “pierced through” by the rod, ending in a decorative finial that also serves as a focal point to the design, accentuating its symmetry. Orrefors company has collaborated with a number of well-known designers, such as Ingegerd Råman and Lena Bergström, to create limited-edition collections and one-of-a-kind pieces, likely including this model. Orrefors' crystal and glassware are highly regarded for their quality and artistic merit, and have been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world. The company has won numerous awards for its designs and craftsmanship, including the prestigious Red Dot Design Award.
The history of Orrefors is the story of how the simplest ingredients – lime, sand, and soda – can become magnificent glass objects. While glass has its limits, Orrefors craftsmen got as close to them as possible. Thanks to this effort, the full effect of this ceiling lamp is that of a real room jewel.
