Mid-Century Modern Veronese Glass Sconces with Silvered Iron Fittings, Poliarte
-
Description
This rare and sculptural pair of modernist sconces were realized by the fabled Italian design firm, Poliarte, in 1974. They feature gridded rectilinear bodies in silvered iron with a mosaic of embedded overlapping hand blown Veronese elements in translucent, amber and aqua glass. Poliarte was founded by the artist Albano Poli in 1953, initially as a producer of exceptional stained glass, moving onto creating some of the most sought after and celebrated lighting designs of the 1960s and 1970s. With its beautiful craftsmanship and iconic sensibility, this pair of sconces represents the work of Alberto Poli at his very best and is a stunning testament to the enduring appeal of his designs. These sconces would be a winning addition to any style of interior from Classic Mid-Century Modern to contemporary. They have been newly rewired to American standards and are in excellent vintage condition. These sconces are documented on page 46 of the Poliarte catalogue.
