Known as the “Stone of Heaven,” Nephrite Jade is prized for both its aesthetic beauty and symbolic value, with the ancient Chinese believing it to be a bridge between heaven and earth. The gemstone was associated with moral ideas such as clarity of mind, purity of spirit, and virtuousness by Confucian schools of thought, becoming coveted by aristocracy for these values. As they believed jade to be indestructible, it became a symbol of immortality and was used to make ritual objects such as bi discs and talismans worn by royalty, in the hopes that it would impart its immortal qualities on to its owner.
