Description
This stunning Art Deco mirror, made in France around 1940, is a masterful blend of elegance and craftsmanship. The frame is lined on the inner and outer edges by giltwood, its golden surface catching the light with a warmth that feels both regal and refined. Surrounding the viewing panel is an églomisé border—glass that has been reverse-painted by hand—a technique that lends the piece a luminous, almost magical quality.
The design is adorned with naturalist motifs, blooming flowers, sheafs of wheat, and winding flourishes that provide stunning ornament and charm to the piece. These details soften the strong geometry of the giltwood frame, creating a juxtaposition so characteristic of Art Deco: nature’s fluidity meeting the structured sophistication of modern design. The mirror speaks of a time in which luxury meant artistry, where even functional objects were designed to inspire. These eglomise painted motifs are sharply backed with mirror, adding an additional layer of alure and sophistication.
Imagine this mirror hanging elegantly above a fireplace or in a softly lit hallway, the giltwood glimmering and the églomisé designs adding a quiet sense of intrigue. It’s more than a mirror—it’s a story, a fragment of 1940s France, where artisans poured their hearts into creating beauty that defied the fleeting whims of fashion. In Excellent Vintage Condition.
