Dutch 19th Century Gilt Symmetrical Mirror
-
Description
Dimensions: 46 ½” H x 22 ⅝” W x 1 ⅝” D
A unique if not rare 19th century Dutch giltwood mirror that incorporates foliate decoration and Neoclassical carvings to animate the narrow, rectangular form. The molding displays a linear pattern of overlapping leaves, marked at the corners by protruding ovals like cabochon gems. Foxing in the original mirror glass appears as a faint haze with one concentration of dark oxidation to the lower third, adding to the intrigue. Strung with picture wire to hang vertically, however the frame is symmetrical to mount in either direction. Please view the detailed images to see more. -
