Description
Etienne Dubernet’s work draws its inspiration from ancient architecture, some of whose motifs he reinterprets to make them dialogue with our time. The motif of the arch, recurrent in his pieces, is a universal symbol: it evokes in turn the shelter, the threshold, the window. By re-inscribing it in forms that are both refined and organic, he operates a contemporary rereading of this historical aesthetic. This architecture becomes a language in order to invoke a familiar visual field, a way of anchoring the past in the present.
Manufacture: Unique pieces made by hand. Available in left-hand mirror or right-hand mirror version that can be sold separately.
Edition: Signature of the artist
Trained in industrial design, Etienne Dubernet has turned to ceramics to move away from the logic of standardization. He seeks a sustainable modernity, based on gesture and a sensitive relationship with the material. Inspired by ancient architecture, he reinterprets, in particular, the universal motif of the arch to connect past and present. Each piece is unique: the geometry he develops favors curves and the unexpected, in contrast to standardized industrial objects. His work explores the tension between controlled forms and the freedom of the material, allowing the clay to express its vitality and memory, always evolving beyond the final object. -
