    Probably New York, ca. 1800-1815.

    Provenance: Private family, Long Island, New York.

    This formal Federal mirror has many features found on New York examples, such as, the gesso frieze under the molded cornice with balls and the carved, shaped sides flanking the reverse-painted glass tablet depicting a house with a sailing vessel in gold with an opaque white background. The original looking glass is flanked by columns with carved capitals. This is an exceptional example based on form, scale, and condition.
