French 19th Century Empire Mirror
-
Description
Dimensions: 45-3/8″H x 32-1/2″W x 3″D
A fabulous Empirically styled rectilinear mirror from 1870s France. The mirror’s frame has lost much of its original gold gilt, but has retained all of its regal beauty. Detailed motifs in grape, rosette, scrolled acanthus and palm styles embellish the frame’s corners, sides, top and bottom. The frame is left with a wonderful ivory-colored finish that combines with the remaining gold gilt to create a unique antique glaze that is simply stunning. Lamb’s tongue trim borders the mirror’s glass, and retains much of its original gold gilt. The glass itself is spectacular and original to the mirror. It has incredible foxing and aging, while still producing a visible reflection. - More Information
