French Pair of Louis XVI Style Gilt Mirrors

An exciting pair of French mirrors framed in classic reeded molding of the Louis XVI taste that reflects the luster of gold gilt now patinated to a fine craquelure texture. Note these mirrors are a seamless marriage of 20th century frames enclosing 19th century mercury glass plates which exhibit hazy foxing so desirable of antique glass. The rectangular frames are symmetrical, however the mirror glass is stacked vertically as they were made at a time or place where the technology was not available to make a single, large plate. Look closely to observe the crystals that add sparkle to the reflection. The ribbed lines of the molding are warmed by red bole peeking through that give dimension to the otherwise restrained design.
